Sing to the Lord, Morning Star (SATB)
| |
Commissioned for the 60-voice youth choir, Pure Sound, of St Luke's United Methodist Church, Houston, directed by Sid Davis. This setting of Psalm 50 has a modal, almost medieval feel, using a 3/4 - 6/8 alternating meter shift. The accompaniment is provided by Kinley's colleague, organist and arranger, Kathryn Sparks.

Gloria, Walton (SA(T)B)

This Gloria setting has been called "serious and intense" by the publisher. It is rhythmically driven; full of energy but with "playful" moments as well. There is a brief, gentle section in the middle of the piece with a vocal/accompaniment echo, then the driving rhythmic figures return to bring the piece to an end. It is scored for SATB with string orchestra accompaniment and is available with piano reduction.

Rock My Soul, Walton (SA(T)B) |

This cool, jazzy setting of the traditional spiritual text incorporates a new melody that's full of rhythmic flair and vocal parts that are fun to sing. Strong dynamic contrasts and a snappy piano accompaniment heighten the excitement. Easily memorized, this piece works great in worship services or concert settings.
