KINLEY LANGE | THE PATHWAY

This music is a milestone along a journey I began in the mid-80s when I was introduced to the monastic communities of Taize and Iona. The simple, yet powerful melodies I learned there significantly affected my life as a church musician and composer.
I have had the good fortune to work with several talented and collaborative spiritual leaders and out of this work, eventually, came the need for music created a little closer to home- that supported directly the efforts of these leaders.
Like many church musicians of my generation, I have been caught in the middle of a struggle between tradition and change. This music, new, but with an ancient heritage, has brought me a welcome and needed balance.
Several of the songs recorded here began as simple refrains to be used in the traditional contemplative style but have developed with time into larger works. All of the songs are intended to remind us to be humble in the presence of a mystery we can never understand, only embrace. - Kinley Lange
